PROJECT REBUILD

We made a nation, a painting
out of a series of persisting things:
an impractical family,
a long payment in installments
a paperback book on the loyalists
an unrequited love
a golden mountain
an assortment of base elements
one of Gacy's victims, melted to the crawlspace
a water monster
a handful of dead crystals
a bed serving as a mirror
and splinters.

Am I blinded by glass buildings
or is it the sun, rising?
