PROJECT REBUILD

PREVIOUS TENANTS

Well Well Well

I'm being attacked

Someone's taking photos

Elsewhere people are drinking

Champagne

Nothing under 500 K, nothing shared, nothing touches

My ribs hurt

like gemstones

I dial again.

No one answers.

I ask them if they hear the curses

the kid from High School

who died while tilting a vending machine,

Nothing and everything.

What do they know?

Look at me, I say

Look at my side

Blood-red

Snake-berry stains on white jeans

By the dumpsters behind Wholefoods.

I am a swordfish.

I am drowning.

Rings of sunlight glinting off the  towers

Like tiny crystals.

A woman turns her head and sees a raven eating swordfish.
